Управо је због тога ова збирка песама подељена на два дела, при чему се први део односи на оне песме које су стваране током Лауриног живота, док су у другом делу песме опеване након њене смрти. Песме у првом делу књиге препуне су страсти, гриже савести, али и хришћанске дужности, док песме у другом делу збирке доносе са собом меланхолију, тескобу, разочарање у краткоћу животног века&hellip; Лауру, кроз Петраркине стихове, видимо као божанско биће, као анђела, као оличење најбољих врлина и чедности, која код Петрарке изазива праву, земаљску љубав и страст, немире и промене расположења. Петраркини сонети, заправо, представљају континуитет осећања, али и умногоме откривају његове снове, патње, немире које изазива та љубав.</p>
