Потоња поглавља говоре о најстаријем књижевном језику и његовим редакцијама, док остатак књиге објашњава судбину и развој српске средњовековне књижевности. Оно што ову књигу чини посебном јесте, свакако, то што се у њој налазе одломци из житија и других списа, као и цитати најистакнутијих проучавалаца књижевности тога доба. С обзиром на то да се ученици упознају са важном и озбиљном тематиком, стил књиге је прилагођен њиховом узрасту, те их то не спутава у учењу. Ипак, ова књига, написана руком Батрића Ћаловића, поред тога што има веома велики теоријски и књижевноисторијски утицај, она представља и културолошки осврт у средњи век.</span></p>
